Dr Bossman Asare[/caption] A deputy chairman at the Electoral Commission, Dr. Bossman Asare is confident that although challenges at the Electoral Commission is daunting, the newly sworn in commissioners are poised to leave a positive mark. A day after he and other commissioners officially started work at the EC, he opened up in an exclusive interview with TV3 that there are lot of work ahead of the team. Dr. Bossman Asare mentioned the referenda to be done for the creation of the new regions as well as the high court decision on roadmap for implementing the Representative of People Act (ROPA). He however told TV3’s Catherine Frimpomaa the “staff and commission are enthusiastic and well able to be able to accomplish the tasks ahead”. Roadmap for New Regions The deputy commissioner conceded that the EC may not be able to do the referenda for the six regions in September but was hopeful the exercise would be carried out before the year ends. Read: Creation of 6 new regions in the hands of EC & Ghanaians – Prez “Within one or two weeks we will come out with a table, by the end of the year new regions would be created, there is enough time to put our houses in order and put structures in place, since the state is in support we may not meet the deadline of September but it would be done.” Some had expressed concerns the removal of Madam Charlotte Osei would caused a major blow to the creation of the regions, but the Minister of Regional Organisation and Development Dan Kweku Botwe assuaged that fear. READ: Charlotte Osei, deputies sacked “I think the new people who have joined the Commission are so much enthusiastic about the opportunity, we are delighted the President of the Republic has identified us to serve in that particular capacity. “We know the EC has gone through a lot of problems; some of them, generally it has not been very, very good, but I think that we are well poised, we understand the challenges ahead, we appreciate the opportunities that have been given to us…I know the task ahead is very daunting…we are so well poised for the opportunity ahead. “I am convinced that we are going to leave a mark that many will look up to and say that our time we did a great job.” Read: Akufo-Addo names Jean Mensa as new EC boss, 2 deputies By Isaac Essel | 3news.com | Ghana]]>
