U/W: Five more Burkinabe deported for entering Ghana illegally

May 13, 2020
Reading Time: 2 mins read

Five Burkina Faso nationals who were arrested for illegally entering Ghana on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 have been deported.

The Burkinabe were seized by personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service after using an unapproved route to Ghana on two motor bikes with Burkina Faso registration numbers.

They are all men whose ages ranged between 15 and 34.

Just last Saturday seven Burkinabe were also arrested and deported. Tuesday’s deportation brings to 153 the number of Burkina Faso nationals deported since the closure of the border in April as part of efforts to fight the spread of COVID-19 in Ghana.

Upper West Region Public Affairs officer of the Ghana Immigration Service, Ibn Yussif Duranah Abdul- Mumin Seidu disclosed this 3news.com that their investigations revealed that the five were destined for Kumasi and Techiman for farming and trading activities.

They were screened by the port heath personnel before being handed over to the Burkina Faso authorities on the other side of the border at about 4:30pm, he said.

There have been several attempts by Burkina Faso nationals to cross into Ghana for greener pastures through unapproved routes in the Upper West Region after the closure of borders.

However, we cannot confirm the number of Burkinabes who have been able to cross to their destinations so far.

But their constant moves to cross into Ghana almost every single day trough unapproved routes calls for worry as its difficult to track how many of them are already in the country through such routes.

who would your most humble servant be?

At a time when power is flaunted more than it is earned, we rise with a different call: #TumiNniSuban—Power without character is nothing. We are done with leaders who wear authority like a costume but lack the soul to serve. Leadership must reflect the people’s dignity, not diminish it. So we ask If elections were held today, who would your most humble servant be?
