One more body has been retrieved following a boat disaster at Faana, an island community near Weija in the Greater Accra region, bringing the total number of death to nine.
Initially, eight children were drowned on Wednesday when the incident happened.
Although three people managed to swim to safety, one child was unaccounted for.
The body of the ninth victim, who was reported missing, was recovered from the river on Thursday after a thorough search.
The pupils were said to have drowned late afternoon on Wednesday while returning from school at Faana to Kelee in the Ga South Municipality.
Twelve people including the boat owner were on the boat when the incident happened, killing 9 of them including a one-and-half-year old girl
.
The boat owner is currently in police custody assisting with investigation.
The town has been thrown into a state of mourning following the incident.
Meanwhile, the deceased have been sent to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital mortuary in Accra. Police have also called on parents of the victims to help identify their kin.
The incident follows a recent, equally unfortunate boat accident at Azizanya in the Ada estuary which also claimed lives.
