The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahanta West, Ebenezer Kojo Kum, has debunked media reports that suggested that he had intended to resign as a legislator.
A report by Kessben TV, which was reproduced by various media outlets, said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP who resigned as the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs in February had also written to the party to resign as an MP but was turned down.
But speaking for the first on the issue in an interview with Accra-based Angel TV, on Sunday, July 30, 2023, Mr. Ebenezer Kum said the reports are false.
The Ahanta West legislator also denied claims that his family is putting pressure on the leadership of the NPP for him to be allowed to resign.
According to him, he has not written any letter to the party informing them of his intention to step down as an MP.
“I have not written any letter to the party that I want to resign. I have not even written one letter, let alone the two being reported.
“I went to parliament on Friday. I have not sent a letter anywhere. Whom did they say I sent the letter to?” he asked in Twi.
The NPP MP recently returned from the United States of America, where he received some medical treatment.
Ebenezer Kojo Kum secured 27,946 votes representing 51.60 percent of the total valid votes cast in the 2020 parliamentary elections in Ahanta West to beat NDC’s Dr Emmanuel Okumi Andoh who polled 23,957 which represented 44.24 percent of votes cast.
