President John Dramani Mahama has swiftly appointed interim replacements following the tragic loss of two cabinet ministers in a military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District, Ashanti Region.
The crash claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, along with six others.
In response, the President has directed the Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson to assume additional responsibility as Acting Minister for Defence, effective immediately.
Concurrently, Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has been named Acting Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, also with immediate effect and continuing until further notice.
These interim appointments aim to ensure the continuity of critical government functions during this difficult period.
Ghana has lowered flags to half-mast nationwide, marking the official mourning period.
Authorities, including the Ghana Armed Forces, have launched a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the helicopter crash.
