The Ankobeahene of Begoro, Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II, has been summoned by the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council for for endorsing the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama.
The chief is scheduled to appear before the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council on February 13, where his fate would be determined.
According to a letter signed by D. M. Ofori-Atta, the secretary of the traditional council, Nana Owiredu Agyarko Minta II has been summoned to explain his actions.
“I forward herewith this writ of summons issued against you by the above-mentioned petitioners from Accra,” portions of the letter read.
The petitioners stated that the Begoro stool name has been brought into disrepute after Nana Owiredu Agyarko made partisan political statements to favor the NDC and their candidate John Mahama.
The summon also directed Nana Owiredu Agyarko Minta II is expected to come in the company of a witness.
He shall also pay a hearing fee of GHC1,000.00.
Meanwhile, the Abuakwa Traditional State Secretary, Dan Marfo Ofori Attah, in a separate interview on Citi News, indicated that the petitioners among other things are seeking an order of destoolment as Ankobeahene of Begoro, a declaration nullifying the respondent’s conduct, a public recantation of the alleged comments, an unqualified apology to the petitioners and the people of Begoro, and punitive customary sanctions if found liable.
