Benjamin Quashie sworn in as Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa

President John Dramani Mahama has officially sworn in Mr. Benjamin Anani Quashie as Ghana’s new High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Jubilee House in Accra on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, marked the commissioning of 11 newly appointed Ghanaian envoys to various countries across the globe, following the granting of agrément by their respective host nations.

Mr. Quashie, a respected businessman and political figure, will represent Ghana in South Africa, with concurrent accreditation to other countries in the Southern African region. His appointment reflects the government’s confidence in his leadership and diplomatic skills to strengthen Ghana’s relations with South Africa — one of the country’s most strategic partners on the continent.

In his remarks, President Mahama charged all envoys to project Ghana’s image positively and work to attract investment, promote trade, and protect the interests of Ghanaians living abroad. He emphasized that their roles were critical to advancing Ghana’s foreign policy priorities and enhancing bilateral cooperation.

Mr. Benjamin Quashie, in an interview with the media, expressed gratitude to the President for the trust reposed in him and pledged to deepen economic, cultural, and political ties between Ghana and South Africa. He highlighted his commitment to promoting Ghanaian businesses, supporting the Ghanaian diaspora, and fostering stronger collaboration between the two nations.

Mr. Benjamin Quashie joins other newly commissioned envoys, including Kwesi Ahwoi (Serbia), Kojo Choi (South Korea), and Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh (Canada), as part of Ghana’s renewed diplomatic efforts under President Mahama’s administration.
