Update: New Asantehemaa named [photos]

The Asanteman Council has announced Nana Ama Konadu as the next Asantehemaa. She succeeds the mother of the Asantehene, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II who died in November 2016 at the age of 111. She was buried on January 19 after days of traditional funeral rites. Nana Ama Konadu would be the 14th queenmother of the Ashanti Kingdom. The over 80-year-old Nana Ama Konadu who is the sister of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is the first daughter of the late queen mother.

The new Asantehemaa is married to Mr. kwame Boateng who hails from Aduamoa in Offinso but had no child.

Nana Ama Konadu had no formal education. She currently fellowships with the Saviour Church.
