Some of the demonstrators[/caption] Asokore Mampong district court has adjourned a case involving seven customers of Menzgold arrested in Kumasi for violating the Public Order Act and verbally abusing police officers. The accused persons who were part of Tuesday’s demonstration to demand refund of their investments were handed charges of unlawful assembly and offensive conduct. Aggrieved customers of the gold dealership firm, had defied police order and stormed the Amakom branch Tuesday morning to hold their protest. Three of the accused were arrested at the scene of the demonstration and the other four were later arrested when they allegedly stormed the police station in what the police described as an “unlawful manner”, to secure bail for their three colleagues arrested earlier. The seven were later granted police enquiry bail before being processed to Asokore Mampong district court. Counsel for the accused, Kwame Owusu Sekyere, told the court his clients are not guilty of the charges and only demanding their locked-up investments. The lawyer prayed the court to grant his clients bail. The court, presided over by Her Worship Portia Molly Anafo Salia, granted the accused persons bail of five thousand cedis with one surety each. Six out of the seven accused appeared in court on Wednesday. Lead prosecutor, Inspector Edward Kwame Adade pleaded for a bench warrant for the arrest of the seventh suspect but the court declined his request. Some customers of Menzgold thronged the court to support their colleagues. A man who claimed to be a customer of Menzgold, Eric Baffour told 3news.com they won’t be intimidated by what happened yesterday but will rather continue to fight for what is due them in a legal way.
