Disqualified PAP flagbearer considers court action

November 12, 2022
Reading Time: 2 mins read

The flagbearer of the People’s Action Party (PAP) says he is not satisfied with the grounds on which the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) disqualified him. Kwasi Busumbru has hinted of possibly going to court to seek redress after a crunch meeting with executives of the party. Speaking on Yen Nsempa on Onua FM on Tuesday, October 20, Mr. Busumbru said the EC should have given them a window of opportunity to correct whatever mistakes there were on the forms rather than disqualifying him on that basis. He has blamed his disqualification on the youth he contracted to collect signatures for him. He said his executives did a shoddy job causing him his presidential bid. The PAP flagbearer told host Anokyewaba Adwoa Serwaa that he is not willing to serve under any party that will win the elections. He has promised to stick to the party’s slogan to protect his integrity and respect, which he revealed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and National Patriotic Party (NPP) don’t have. He said the NDC and NPP are inept and haplessly incompetent in developing and transforming the country after several years of being given the mandate to be in government. He emphasized that he doesn’t see himself joining any of these two parties because they practise what he called galamsey democracy where they win power to amass wealth for themselves. Mr. Busumbru hinted that no political party will have a straight win in the upcoming elections because Ghanaians are fed up and disgruntled with the duopoly of NPP and NDC. who would your most humble servant be?

At a time when power is flaunted more than it is earned, we rise with a different call: #TumiNniSuban—Power without character is nothing. We are done with leaders who wear authority like a costume but lack the soul to serve. Leadership must reflect the people’s dignity, not diminish it. So we ask If elections were held today, who would your most humble servant be?
