Experts condemn Akufo-Addo’s appointment of GOIL MD

February 28, 2017
Reading Time: 2 mins read

Energy experts have criticised  the appointment of a new Managing Director of the Ghana Oil Company (GOIL), arguing that the government got it all wrong in that move. Former deputy Attorney General Osei Kwame Prempeh was appointed head of Goil by President Akufo-Addo to replace Kwame Akorli. This has led a widespread criticism of the president’s action among stakeholders in the energy sector, including the chamber of petroleum consumers, the petroleum association and other entities. What has raised the eyebrows is how government defied the processes involved in the appointment of heads of such limited liability companies like Goil listed on the stock exchange. Wading into the issue, energy expert Kwadwo Poku contends: “There are processes that need to be followed in these appointments. Goil is a limited liability company and a lot goes into appointment of its head. I think government got it all wrong in this move”. On his part, research consultant Nana Otuo Acheampong pointed out that the appointment process has been elaborated in the companies act. “The board will have to meet and decide on whom to approve. There are steps and processes to be followed in the companies act, when doing such appointments.” By Grace Asare |3FM|3news.com]]>
