GFA wanted NDC’s downfall, claims Nii Lante Vanderpuye

February 8, 2017
Reading Time: 3 mins read

Nii Lantey Vanderpuye is the immediate past Youth and Sports Minister
[/caption] Former Minister of Youth and Sports Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye claims he has a video which shows some officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) popping champagne and rejoicing over the defeat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 presidential elections. Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association Ibrahim Sannie Daara in December last year laughed at the outgoing sports minister after his party’s defeat in the 2016 polls, exclaiming “God has spoken, God has spoken”. The former BBC sports journalist remained optimistic his outfit would from then enjoy peace since the troublesome sports minister’s reign was set to expire after January 7. He further indicated that Mr. Nii Lante’s ten months in office as sports minister added no positive contribution to the development of sports in the country, adding that his presence at the sports ministry was a devastating and unsatisfactory ambition championed to worsen the performance of the sporting disciplines in the country especially the Black Stars team. According to Sannie Daara, Nii Lante had an agenda to embarrass the nation’s football governing body. Speaking in an interview on with Accra-based Class91.3FM on Wednesday, Mr Vanderpuye wondered why the GFA would want the NDC’s or his downfall. “I should be history because NDC is no more in power but I am not history in parliament. “Is that why they popped champagne at the GFA Secretariat when NDC lost the elections?” he asked. “They popped champagne and played music and I have the evidence on video, and they saw me as a problem but I am not a problem because I was fighting in the interest of mother Ghana. “Yesterday, his minister appeared before me and as long as I continue to be a Member of Parliament I could summon him to appear before parliament so me being history is his word. “He knows,  and if he understands the relevance and the strength in the power of parliament, he will not say an MP is history.” According to the former sports broadcaster, some people in the football fraternity were financing his opponent during the elections so he would lose. “Do you know how much money has come from, which is a state institution, to the GFA and the Black Stars? Do you know how much money they have received from FIFA on behalf of Ghana? If you put all that together, you will be amazed about the amount of money that have been invested into football without any reasons”. By Nana Afrane Asante|3news.com|Ghana Follow @3Newsgh]]>
