Ghana’s music fraternity is reeling from the devastating news of the passing of veteran Highlife musician, Nana Kwaku Duah, popularly known by his stage name, Dada KD.

Though the cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed by family or management, multiple sources and tributes online suggest the loss is real — sending shockwaves across the country and beyond.

Dada KD, whose career spanned several decades, was known for his deep, emotional vocals and his unique blend of traditional Highlife rhythms with contemporary themes.

His timeless hits, including “Somu Gye”, and “Fatia Fata Nkrumah”, have earned him a special place in the hearts of Ghanaians both at home and in the diaspora.

His music, often steeped in themes of love, unity, and cultural pride, resonated across generations and became a staple in many Ghanaian households.

In a tragic twist of fate, Dada KD was billed to headline a highly anticipated concert in London on May 25, where he was expected to share the stage with fellow legends Obrafour, Slim Buster, and rising star Kojo Blakk. The event, which was generating buzz among Highlife and Hiplife lovers, was seen as a major moment for celebrating Ghanaian music on an international platform.

Since news of his passing broke, tributes have poured in from fans, fellow musicians, media personalities, and cultural stakeholders. Social media has been flooded with heartfelt messages recalling Dada KD’s impact, humility, and the signature sound that helped shape the Highlife genre in the late 90s and early 2000s.

“Dada KD was more than a musician — he was a storyteller, a custodian of tradition, and a bridge between old and new generations of Ghanaian music,” wrote one fan on X (formerly Twitter).

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), as well as other industry bodies, are yet to issue formal statements, but insiders suggest that preparations are underway to honor his memory with a tribute concert and other commemorative events.

Dada KD’s legacy is expected to endure through his expansive discography, and through the countless artists he inspired. As Ghana’s entertainment community comes to terms with this profound loss, many are calling for his life and work to be documented and preserved as a vital part of the nation’s cultural history.

who would your most humble servant be?

At a time when power is flaunted more than it is earned, we rise with a different call: #TumiNniSuban—Power without character is nothing. We are done with leaders who wear authority like a costume but lack the soul to serve. Leadership must reflect the people’s dignity, not diminish it. So we ask If elections were held today, who would your most humble servant be?
