GOC President visits Rugby team

GOC President Ben Nunoo-Mensah (Middle) with some of the rugby team players[/caption] The President of Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo-Mensah has paid a surprise visit to members of Ghana Rugby team in their camp where the team is preparing for Olympic Qualifiers. Ghana Rugby is a full member of both World Rugby and Rugby Africa in Ghana-West Africa with Herbert Mensah as its President. The Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) is making preparations  towards Botswana in a Rugby Africa Cup tournament in November and also for the Men’s 7s Olympic Qualifier that will be played in South Africa at the Bosman Stadium in Johannesburg between 8 and 9 November 2019.

The fourteen teams in the men’s competition will include Zimbabwe, Kenya, Uganda, Madagascar, Zambia, Tunisia, Senegal, Morocco, Namibia, Ghana, Botswana, Mauritius, Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria.

The Ghana National Men’s Sevens Team, the Ghana Eagles, first entered the Rugby Africa Sevens arena in 2017 when it was ranked in the sevens lineup for the first time in Kampala, Uganda.

In its second participation in Tunisia in 2018, it managed to reach the Bronze Cup finals where the Ghana Eagles were beaten by Namibia.

Ghana Rugby is the official full member of both World Rugby (2017) and Rugby Africa in Ghana-West Africa and is responsible for the management and development of the Game Rugby Union in the country. The Union is governed by a Constitution and administers five KPAs (Key Performance Areas) namely: (1) Youth Development & Growth through the World Rugby “Get Into Rugby” Programme, (2) Women in Ghana Rugby, (3) Training & Education, (4) Domestic Competitions and (5) International Performance.
