Ghana striker, Jordan Ayew has been in tremendous form for the Black Stars at this year’s Africa Cup of nations.
With two goals in three matches, the striker has tied down the spot and has repaid the faith Kwesi Appiah put in him as the country’s leading sharpshooter.
The 27 year old was in CAF’s team of the tournament after the group stages and is slowing leaving his name on the lips of many football-loving fans in Ghana and on the continent.
However, the striker who scored just a goal last season in the English top flight for Crystal Palace says he always knew the time for him to shine would come.
“I am not surprised. I have confidence in myself and I know that I just need to keep on working hard. People are now seeing the hard work I have put in for all these years. This is something I knew I was capable of doing so none of it surprises to me at all,” he said.
There have been calls for unity in the team. In many cases, Jordan’s stone cold attitude away from the pitch has come under scrutiny. He is usually reserved and an introvert who keeps to himself a lot – always on his phone, listening to music on his iPod and mostly zoned out from the rest of his teammates.
But that has not stopped the younger Ayew from praising his teammates when they deserve it. He knows the essence of unity and it is a huge feature the Black Stars need now in order to succeed.
He has attributed his good goal-scoring form to how tireless his teammates work to get him into scoring positions.
Jordan said, “Hard work pays off you know. I worked hard and it is paying off. For me the most important thing is the team and I have to congratulate my teammates because if it was not for them getting the good balls, I would not be able to express myself on the pitch. We are growing and getting stronger after every match.”
Ghana’s next match is on Monday against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.
