Joycelyn Tetteh wallops NPP’s Attah Kudjoh in North Dayi parliamentary election

Joycelyn Tetteh wallops NPP’s Attah Kudjoh in North Dayi parliamentary election

In a resounding victory, the National Democratic Congress’ Joycelyn Tetteh has retained her parliamentary seat in the North Dayi Constituency in the Volta Region, delivering a significant blow to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Edmund Attah Kudjoh.

The election results affirmed Tetteh’s popularity in the constituency, with a commanding 12,778 votes compared to Attah Kudjoh’s 4,722 and the Liberal Party of Ghana’s (LPG) Gloria Yayra Agbenorto, who managed a mere 134 votes, representing 72.13%, 26.65% and 0.76% respectively. The total votes cast was 17,715.

The stakes were high, with the government throwing its weight behind the NPP candidate in a determined bid to unseat the NDC incumbent.

For instance, Herbert Krapa, the Minister of Energy and a native of North Dayi, led a robust campaign to bolster Attah Kudjoh’s prospects. Among his efforts were donations of trucks of sewing machines, fridges, streetlights, blenders and other items to residents in the constituency, a move aimed at wooing voters.

Despite these efforts, the NPP candidate’s performance fell far short, with the results underscoring the NDC’s entrenched dominance in the area.

Government investments in the constituency, widely viewed as attempts to sway the electorate, also failed to yield the desired outcome. Local sources reported the deployment of significant resources, including cash and assorted items, in the lead-up to the polls. However, the electorate appeared to prioritize Tetteh’s proven track record and deep connection with the community over material incentives.

Joycelyn Tetteh, who has served the constituency since 2016, is known for her focus on education, youth empowerment, and infrastructural development. Her victory reinforces her mandate and affirms her enduring popularity among her constituents.

Speaking to jubilant supporters after the declaration of results, Tetteh expressed gratitude for their trust and promised to continue championing their development.

“This victory is for the people of North Dayi. It is a testament to our collective resolve to prioritize progress over empty promises,” she stated.

The NPP’s defeat in North Dayi is particularly striking given the high-level involvement of party stalwarts and the substantial resources deployed.

With her decisive win, Joycelyn Tetteh continues to cement her legacy as a formidable force in the political landscape of North Dayi, a constituency that remains a stronghold of the NDC.
