Mr. Nyantakyi’s resignation comes barely hours after the world football governing body, FIFA banned him for 90 days. An investigative documentary on corruption in football which featured Mr. Nyantakyi and some top football officials in Ghana and Africa in general was first screened on Wednesday June 6. “After a meeting of the Executive Committee this afternoon I decided to resign as President of the Ghana Football Association,” the former GFA boss said on Friday. Mr. Nyantakyi sated in his resignation letter that the undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas “deceived me into thinking they were genuine persons interested in investing in our Country”. He subsequently apologised to the president, Nana Akufo-Addo for dragging his and that of some government officials into his “indiscretion” when he met the would-be investors, whom he described as “scammers”. “I wish to apologise to my family, work colleagues, friends, associates and the people of Ghana for the disappointment my indiscretion has caused then).
