LPG operators to strike on Monday after Akufo-Addo’s ‘snub’

May 18, 2018
Reading Time: 2 mins read

The Ghana LPG Operators Association (GLiPGOA) has resolved to embark on a nationwide strike next week after its inability to get a fair hearing from government. The Association accused government of failing to give them a “favourable response” when its concerns about the Cylinder Re-circulation Model Policy were brought before it. “GLiPGOA national emergency meeting organized on the 15th of May, 2018 unanimously resolved that with effect from 6:00am, Monday the 21st of May, 2018 a nationwide strike action be called and all services to the general public at all LPG filling plants in the country should cease then until further notice,” the Association said in a statement to its members. The LPG operators had pulled out of the Cylinder Re-circulation Model policy (CRM) Implementation Committee as a result of what it described as “stiff resistance by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) to its opposition to the classification of LPG filling plants in the country into high and low risk facilities.” It said following the exit, it made several attempts at getting a hearing with President Akufo-Addo ,” who it was understood ordered the implementation of the CRM”, but it failed. The group has since been urging government to, as a matter of urgency, intervene to stop the implementation of the Cylinder Re-circulation Model policy but to no avail. The statement signed by GLiPGOA president, Torgbi Adaku V appealed to the general public to bear with its members under the “trying moment” when the strike begins.
