National Service Scheme to do door-to-door delivery of certificate

National Service Personnel who will complete their service in 2019 would be spared the hustle of traveling several kilometers to get their certificate as the Secretariat hints of introducing a door-to-door delivery of certificates. Disclosing this on Onua FM’s flagship political talkshow Ghana Dadwen on Thursday, the Director of Public Affairs at the National Service Secretariat (NSS) David Prah explained that, the NSS has started rolling out some innovative systems aimed at reducing the burden of Service Personnel. “This is another new thing that we are introducing in order to ensure that our brothers and sisters don’t go through the hustles they have to endure before claiming their certificates. We need to help them after serving the country and some of them have to travel from a far” he told the host, Nana Yaw Opare. Recounting frustration personnel who complete their mandatory national service go through every year to obtain their certificates, David Prah remarked: “It is sad to see someone travel from the hinterland just to pick a certificate and in most cases, money to undertake such journey is a problem. So, through the innovation of the current management, we have decided to introduce this, which will be a sort of motivation too.” David Prah was hopeful about the future of the Secretariat following the successful implementation of the online registration under the current management. “We have gone paperless to avoid what normally used to be the case where prospective service personnel have to queue for long hours just to register to serve their country. We have successfully introduced online registration and so far the story we are hearing is that of a success,” he noted. Last year, registration processes in some centres were greeted with chaotic scenes when military personnel deployed to maintain order ended up assaulting them.
