Okoe Oninku Henry has been appointed as Ghana’s first Deputy Country Head for the International Youth Network for United Nations Peace and Security Resolution 2250 (IYNUNSCR 2250), marking a significant milestone in youth leadership and peacebuilding efforts in the country.
The appointment positions Mr. Oninku Henry at the forefront of advancing the principles of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250, which recognizes the critical role of young people in peacebuilding, conflict prevention, and the promotion of inclusive and sustainable security frameworks worldwide. IYNUNSCR 2250 is a global, youth-led initiative dedicated to translating this landmark resolution into practical action at international, national, and community levels.
Speaking on the appointment, Mr. Oninku Henry described the moment as both humbling and defining in his professional journey. He noted that the role comes alongside the successful completion of his studies at the International Training Center for Diplomacy, Peace and Security, an experience he says has strengthened his technical, diplomatic, and leadership capacity for the task ahead.
“I accept this responsibility with a clear mandate—to advance meaningful youth participation in peacebuilding, promote inclusive dialogue, and ensure the effective localization of UNSCR 2250 across Ghana,” he stated. “This office calls for service rooted in diplomacy, accountability, collaboration, and impact-driven leadership.”
As Deputy Country Head, Mr. Oninku Henry will support the coordination of national youth peace initiatives, engage stakeholders across government and civil society, and help amplify youth voices in security and peace processes. His role is expected to contribute to aligning Ghana’s youth engagement strategies with global peace and security frameworks.
