Photos: Ghana to lead in transshipment as Terminal 3 is handed over

June 29, 2019
Reading Time: 3 mins read

The Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Michael Lujuge says the new terminal three of the Tema port is well positioned to lead in transshipment trade within the sub-region. He was confident business at the ports will thrive as the new terminal comes into operations, stressing that the state of the art facility will give Ghana leverage and preference for trade. He has therefore urged customs to fast track measures to ensure the smooth engagements with the various stakeholders. Michael Lujuge commended the construction team of Meridian Port Services Ltd (MPS) for a “great engineering master piece” which he descried as the best in the sub-region. The 1.5 billion dollar port is expected to receive the first vessel to discharge its first cargo consignment in weeks, chief executive officer of MPS, Mohammed Samara noted. The project director of MPS, Mark Nolet handed over the symbolic key to the transition team on June 28 for business to commence. In attendance were the assistant commissioner in charge of Tema customs Dr Godfried Oko Appiah, the Director of Tema port, Sandra Opoku and some players in the maritime industry. Commercial operations will start on July 2. Designed to last for 100 years, the new port will run 24 hours and seven days. Meanwhile, President Nana Akufo-Addo has held a meeting with the shareholders of MPS, and obtained their commitment to engage GPHA to ensure adequate revenue generation and job retention on the part of GPHA. He has assured that there would be no job losses. By Josephine Frempong | 3news.com]]>

who would your most humble servant be?

At a time when power is flaunted more than it is earned, we rise with a different call: #TumiNniSuban—Power without character is nothing. We are done with leaders who wear authority like a costume but lack the soul to serve. Leadership must reflect the people’s dignity, not diminish it. So we ask If elections were held today, who would your most humble servant be?
