Residents after chief’s life after young man dies of his alleged curse

May 3, 2018
Reading Time: 2 mins read

Some residents of Janga in the East Mamprusi district of the Northern Region are bent on lynching their former chief whose curse they suspect caused the death of a young man. Mohammed Alhassan, 25, son of a local warrior in Janga, drowned crossing the White Volta on Wednesday May 2,2018. The incident that happened at about 7pm angered residents as they blame it on a curse invoked by the former chief of the area, Soo Naaba Seidu Nantogma on April 30, 2018. The chief is said to have invoked the curse following his dethrone by the Nayiri of Mamprugu Naa Mahami Sheriga. Soo Naaba Seidu Nantogma was on May 1, 2018 de-skinned by the Overlord of Mamprugu after some chieftaincy dispute. He was accused of failing to rebuke wrong doers under his jurisdiction. The chief who is said to have felt bitter invoked curses that “anyone who had a hand in his suspension will die when crossing any of the Volta Lakes”. Janga which shares boundaries with the White Volta. Meanwhile tension is rising in Janga as after a failed attempt by residents to lynch him in his private home, are still bent on attacking him for the demise of Mohammed Alhassan. “Police went to Janga village and maintained peace. They patrolled throughout the night and ensured peace and security, the officers are still at post to prevent any unforeseen occurrence,”  the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer DSP Yussif Tanko told the media. In an unrelated development, officers of the Operation Calm Life in Tamale on the night of May 2,2018 arrested two people suspected to have burnt a house belonging to an alleged witch. Suspects are in police custody aiding in investigations. By Zubaida Ismail |3news.com | Ghana]]>
