Suspend Ken Agyapong – Privileges C’ttee recommends

July 27, 2018
Reading Time: 2 mins read

The Privileges Committee wants Ken Agyapong sanctioned[/caption] Parliament’s Privileges Committee has recommended to the House to suspend the member for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong for bringing Parliament’s name into disrepute. The outspoken politician was hauled before the Privileges Committee after he was cited for contempt of Parliament for using words like “useless” and “cheap’ to demean the august house. The Committee which had previously established a prima facie case against the MP concluded that after meeting with Mr. Agyapong, it was convinced that his comments on radio were insulting to Parliament. [caption id="attachment_90111" align="aligncenter" width="620"] Mr. Agyapong’s outburst was sparked by his dislike for a documentary by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas (R)[/caption] “The Committee has carefully considered the matter in the light of the totality of the evidence gathered and in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, the Standing Orders and other relevant enactments and concluded that the Hon. Member for Assin Central Constituency, Mr. Ken Ohene Agyapong is indeed in contempt of Parliament for the remarks he made that ‘Parliament is cheap’ and ‘Parliament is useless'”, the Committee said in its report to Parliament. Meanwhile, when Mr. Agyapong appeared before the Committee on Monday July 23, he strongly denied calling Parliament useless. He however conceded using the word “cheap” on Parliament because he was “furious”, and subsequently apologised to Parliament before the Committee. But the report signed by the Chairman of the Privileges Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu and Clerk of the Committee, Eric Owusu-Mensah concluded: “Accordingly the Committee recommends to the House to adopt its Report and sanction Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong by suspending him for the rest of this session or reprimand him.” READ ALSO: Ken Agyapong apologises to Parliament, says he is not a tin god but… Source: 3news.com | Ghana]]>
