The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has for the second time declared publicly, his support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the party’s flagbearership race.
At a private dinner held in Kumasi on December 30, Wontumi once again breached the party’s code of conduct, despite earlier caution by the General Secretary in August 2022 against such actions.
The chairman was heard asking members of the regional executive council to declare their loyalty to Vice President Dr. Bawumia in a simple abbreviated slogan BMW, meaning Bawumia Must Win, TV3 Ashanti Regional Bureau Chief William Evans-Nkum reported,
Present at the meeting were the Ejisu Member of Parliament and Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. John Kumah, and Effiduase MP Dr Ayew Afriyie whose house Wontumi first made the public declaration.
The Code of Conduct provides in Section 1 (f) that: “Members, supporters, sympathizers of the Party at all levels shall desist from using their public office or portfolio within or outside the party to promote the interest of any prospective presidential or parliamentary candidate in order to gain unfair political advantage.”
