Zenith University College on course to becoming autonomous

August 4, 2018
Reading Time: 3 mins read

Zenith University College is on course to becoming an autonomous university, Professor Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has said.

He said the role of mentoring institutions such as the UCC was to nurture the partner college like Zenith University under it to share good practices with it, so that it matures a fully grown autonomous university.

“Zenith University College is on course in meeting the requirements of its affiliation with UCC,” Prof Ampiah stated in a speech read on his behalf at the August 2018 congregation of the Zenith University College over the weekend in Accra.

“We are hopeful that if appropriate structures are put in place, sooner than later, Zenith will be on its own and manage its own affairs,” he added.

“The UCC as a mentoring institution wishes to give you all assurances of its continuing support.”

He said the aim of any university, such as Zenith, should be to train students to become well equipped to address any development challenges that confront the country and also to become agents of change wherever they would find themselves.

The UCC has, since 2008, being Zenith University College main partner for the provision of degree programme at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Prof Jophus Anamuah-Mensah, the Chairman of the Zenith University College Council, said the institutional affiliation arrangement between the College and UCC had been mutually rewarding.

He said in addition to the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree programmes, UCC, in 2016, gave Zenith University College the mandate to add more programmes to its menu of academic programmes such as a two-year diploma in Business Administration and local Bachelor of Laws degree programme under the Ghana Legal System.

Mr Stephen Takyi-Asiedu, the Rector, Zenith University College, said to ensure high quality output, Zenith University College was focused on the continuous improvement of all aspects of its operations: from the retooling of the technical and learning processes to the improvement of student services and the recruitment and training of the teaching and non-teaching staff.

He noted that the College was engaged in the continual review of its programmes to make them market-driven.

He urged the graduands to be good ambassadors of Zenith University College wherever they may find yourselves, adding, “We expect you to belong to the few people who make things happen in an organisation and not those who watch things happen or do not have an idea of what happens.”

The Congregation, which is the ninth graduation by Zenith University College was for December 2017 graduands.

A total of 161 candidates made up of 69 males and 92 females graduated at the ceremony.

Out of this total figure, 22 representing 13.7 per cent obtained first class honours.

While 68, representing 42.2 per cent had second class upper; another 68, representing 42.2 per cent obtained second class lower.

Two, representing 1.3 per cent had third class and one person, representing 0.6 per cent obtained a pass degree.
