CID requests relevant information on Nyantakyi’s ‘fraudulent’ case

May 23, 2018
Reading Time: 2 mins read

President of GFA, Kwesi Nyantakyi[/caption] The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service says it has commenced investigations into corrupt charges leveled against the President of the Ghana Football Association Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi. It is therefore appealing to the public to volunteer information that would assist its investigations. A statement issued by the CID said the exercise was triggered by a complaint from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The president, the CID said, accused Mr. Nyantakyi of using his name and the presidency “fraudulently”. Kwesi Nyantakyi was out of the country when President Akufo-Addo filed that complaint, but he is expected to return on Wednesday 23rd May, 2018 and would be “required to assist with the ongoing investigation”. “Any person with relevant information may submit it to the Police CID headquarters,” the statement requested, assuring the public that due processes would be followed in the investigation. The GFA boss was caught on a secret video by ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, allegedly engaging in fraudulent activities. The video is yet to be made public, but a Deputy Chief of Staff, Abu Jinapor confirmed to the media on Tuesday that President Akufo-Addo had the benefit of viewing the video documentary on corruption in football, which he said influenced the action against Mr. Nyantakyi. It is however not clear if Anas would make the video available to the police ahead of the public screening on June 6.
