Tamale: Sell tramol when prescribed only or be closed down – Mayor warns

June 28, 2018
Reading Time: 2 mins read

Musah Superior[/caption] The Mayor of Tamale Musah Superior has sent a strong warning, threatening to close down chemical shops selling tramadol without prescription. Musah Superior issued the caution when he interacted with the media ahead of the maiden edition of the Mayor’s Excellence Awards scheduled for 30th June at Modern City. According to him, he was attacked and nearly lynched in a community called Choggu in the Tamale metropolis when he went there to demolish a hub hosting criminals in a joint military police operation. “They had the audacity to jump into the military vehicle meanwhile some members of the community assured us they were going to protect us. It took my bodyguard to fire a warning shot,” to disperse them, he recalled. “We are going to meet the pharmacy council and every drug store or pharmacy shop that sells tramadol without prescription will be totally closed down”. The Mayor used the opportunity to caution the Mallams, Imams and chiefs who interfere when people are reprimanded for engaging in wrongdoing to put a stop to that behaviour. Excellence Awards The Mayor’s Excellence Awards is an award scheme to appreciate the selfless contributions of some individuals to the development of Tamale. In all, 50 people will be presented with awards which includes 10 special awardees from various sectors, 11 former mayors, 29 to persons from Tamale who have contributed significantly to the development of Tamale. In addition 58 members of the Metropolitan Assembly would be honoured with certificates. The planning committee has since received an amount of 174,150 Ghana cedis from individuals and institutions, way above the budgeted amount of 100,000 cedis. The vice President Dr. Bawumia and other top government officials are expected to grace the occasion on June 30. By Christopher Amoako | 3news.com ]]>
