Zylofon Cash gifts Akwamuman SHS Drama Club $10,000

June 23, 2018
Reading Time: 4 mins read

Zylofon Cash, in a bid to nurture and promote creativity, has donated a cash amount of $10,000 to the Drama Club of the Akwamuman Senior High School. The donation is to facilitate the school’s participation in an international drama contest in South Africa this month as Ghana’s representative. Zylofon Cash is a digital platform where varied contents are viewed for free and owners of the contents get paid according to the number of views their contents attract. In October 2017, the school’s drama club emerged winners in the Broadway Drama Festival contest brushing off stiff competition from 14 other schools including PRESEC and St Thomas Aquinas. The hope of representing Ghana was gradually waning until the Ghana Education Service advised the school to put in a request for support from Zylofon Cash, and the response was positive. Present at the donation ceremony included representatives of the Paramount Chief of the Akwamu Traditional Area led by Nana Ansah Kwao IV, representative of GES, headmaster, teachers, students of the school and some management members of Zylofon Media. Nana Ansah Kwao IV, the chief of Aduma, received the cash donation on behalf of the school on Friday and handed it over immediately to Mrs. Mina Danso Darko, a patron of the drama club and a teacher at Akwamuman SHS. Elated Mrs. Danso Darko was full of praise for Zylofon Cash, noting how the school nearly missed out on this opportunity to expose the students to further opportunities. With this gesture, the school is set to leave Ghana for South Africa on Sunday June 24 to stage a historical drama coincidentally written by Nana Ansah Kwao IV. They will return on July 10. Mr. Gabriel Kwamegab, National Coordinator of Zylofon Cash, said his outfit was proud of what the school achieved, so as an organisation that believes in creativity, it was in order to support them. He noted that the unit was set up under the Zylofon group to showcase local creativity to prove to the world that Ghanaians and Africans as a whole are equally up to the task and not an inferior race. It’s also aimed at helping people monitize their creativity. Unlike the Facebook, Twitter and Youtube that pay if only users hit a target, he said, with Zylofon Cash persons who upload any items, be it music, video, drama, picture or whatever get paid as soon as the contents are viewed. Contents submitted are vetted by a censorship team to ensure that they are not pornographic and do not contain hate message or fringes on minority groups. Zylofon Cash soon in Nigeria, UK Mr. Kwamegab announced that a similar platform would be created in Nigeria and the United Kingdom respectively to enable a lot more people monetize their contents there. Mr. William Tekpor, Operations Manager for Zylofon Media disclosed that the company intends to sign on and groom members of the Akwamuman SHS Drama Club under the Zylofon Art Club. Nana Ansah Kwao IV felt bitter that African writers have not adequately projected the values of the continent, bemoaning the fact that when several movies have been made out of Robin Hood, a fictional character, nothing has been done on Ghana’s former president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. He noted that this among other things speak volumes of the superiority complex the whites have over the blacks because their good history have been well packaged, to favour them, and handed over to generations to embolden and develop their confidence. He argued that immunization had its root from a group of Africans who advised Abraham Lincoln to get his sick soldiers healed, but that account has been obliterated from the western history. Nonetheless, what stole the day at the donation, for many, was the real and rare display of inherent talent by the drama club of the school, who justified why they are the best to represent Ghana abroad with short  but a exciting drama.
